PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 1,1,2-trichloroethane (TCE) in a high yield while suppressing production of a by-product, in the method for producing TCE by reacting vinyl chloride with chlorine. SOLUTION: The method for producing 1,1,2-trichloroethane (TCE) comprises using a system containing at least one kind of metal selected from a group consisting of molybdenum, gallium, titanium, zirconium and tungsten or a compound of the metal as a catalyst, in the method for producing TCE by reacting vinyl chloride with chlorine.
