PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the generation of overlapping-feeding by reducing adhesion of the whole surfaces of sheets S. SOLUTION: The sheet feeder 54 is provided with a pickup roller 9 contacted/rotated with the sheet and conveying the sheet; a feed roller 10 for rotating the sheet conveyed by the pickup roller 9 in a conveying direction; and a retard roller 11 press-contacted with the feed roller 10, transmitting predetermined driving force in a direction for returning the sheet and separating the overlapped sheet. The same sheet is more quickly conveyed by the pickup roller 9 than the feed roller 10 and is distorted, the overlapped sheets are left from each other and an air layer is generated between the sheets. Thereafter, the pickup roller is left from the sheets and the air layer is generated in an approximately whole clearance between the sheets. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
