ELECTRON BEAM EXCITED PHOSPHOR OR PHOSPHOR FILM AND COLOR DISPLAY UNIT UTILIZING THE SAME

<p>An electron beam excited phosphor that even when the excitation density of electron beams for phosphor excitation is increased, is capable of sustaining high luminance with a lowering of luminous efficiency minimized. Phosphor of the composition formula Ca<SUB>0.985</SUB>SiAlN<SUB>3</SUB>:Eu<SUB>0.015</SUB> is produced by a process comprising providing Ca<SUB>3</SUB>N<SUB>2</SUB>(2N), AlN(3N), Si<SUB>3</SUB>N<SUB>4</SUB>(3N) and Eu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>(3N) as raw materials; conducting weighing and mixing so that the molar ratio of elements satisfies the relationship (Ca+Eu):Al:Si=1:1:1; firing the mixture by holding it in an inert atmosphere at 1500°C for 3 hr; and pulverizing the fired mixture.</p>
