PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of flexibly operating an image forming apparatus by enabling user authentication by using an authentication server.

SOLUTION: An MFP (multi-function peripheral) 10 comprises an authentication section 31 for conducting user authentication by communicating data with an authentication server 50, a nonvolatile RAM for storing "use permission information" for settability of the use of the MFP 10 by each user, and an operation permission judgment means 32 for determining the usability of the MFP 10 by each user authenticated by the authentication section 31 according to the use permission information.
