PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for movement restriction of a locating magnet so that the locating magnet may always be within a movement area of a sensor even if the measured section of a cylinder moves into dead zone. SOLUTION: In this method, a movement restriction array for limiting the movement of the magnet 1 which indicates location in a magnetostrictive sensor is disclosed. The magnet 1 is retained against a magnet stop 6 of a plunger 2 with pressure of a spring 7 to correctly follow position of the plunger 2 while being in active area 5 of the sensor 4. A limit stop 9 of the cylinder 3 corresponds to the active area 5 of the sensor 4, provided with a shelf section which can prevent the locating magnet 1 from moving into the dead zone of the sensor 4.
