PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide low-density paper that is produced by utilizing pulp fiber, in more detail, provide low-density paper with reduced powdering, causing no adverse effect on the smoothness. SOLUTION: The pulp slurry prepared by including curled fiber in an amount of 0.5 to 40 mass% based on the whole pulp fiber and co-beating the mixture of curled fiber and other fiber than the curled fiber is used so that the pulp slurry after beating may have the freeness of 350 to 600 ml according to the Canada Standard described in JIS P8121 and the low-density paper is produced by using the paper raw material. Favorably, an internal filler is added to the pulp slurry in an amount of 0.5 to 30 mass%. In addition, an organic polymer layer is formed on the surface whereby the low density paper is produced with marked advantage. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
