PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing gravure printing paper having high smoothness and cushioning properties, small drydown and high surface hardness. SOLUTION: The method for producing the gravure printing paper is carried out by coating base paper with a coating liquid comprising a pigment and an adhesive as components and performing a calender treatment. The pigment contains the following (A) to (C). (A) a hollow organic pigment having 0.2-0.5μm average particle diameter, (B) a delaminated clay having 30-60 aspect ratio, 1.0-2.0μm average particle diameter and 30-45 mass% of the ratio of particles having≥2.0μm particle diameter and (C) calcium carbonate having≤10 mass% of the ratio of particles having≥2.0μm particle diameter.
