PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cigarette smoke filter capable of selectively removing only formaldehydes while keeping the removing rate of tar and nicotine relatively low, and high in safety even in case of their oral intake. SOLUTION: The cigarette smoke filter is characterized by containing a basic polypeptide. The basic polypeptide, because of being a polymer, is hardly crystallizable and rich in solubility to water. After dissolving the basic polypeptide in water, the resultant aqueous solution is borne on the fibers of cellulose diacetate crimped fiber tow having commonly used as a cigarette smoke filter by means of spraying, coating, immersing, etc., and can be formed into thin film.
