A flame-retardant polymer molding composition comprises a polymer or a mixture of polymers and a nanoparticulate phosphorus-containing flame retardant system. The flame-retardant system comprises at least one phosphinic salt, a diphosphinic salt, and/or their polymers. A flame-retardant polymer molding composition comprises a polymer or a mixture of polymers and a nanoparticulate phosphorus-containing flame retardant system. The flame-retardant system comprises at least one phosphinic salt of formula {[R 1-P(=O)(R 2)-O] m} -> M +> (I) (where M carries charge of m unit), a diphosphinic salt of formula {[O-P(=O)(R 1)-R 3-P(=O)(R 2)-O] n} 2-> (M x) +> (II) (where M carries charge of m unit), and/or their polymers. R 1 and R 2linear or branched 1-6C alkyl, or aryl; R 3linear or branched 1-10C alkylene, 6-10C arylene, 6-10C alkylarylene, or 6-10C arylalkylene; M : Mg, Ca, Al, Sb, Sn, Ge, Ti, Fe, Zr, Zn, Ce, Bi, Sr, Mn, Li, Na, K, or a protonated nitrogen base; m, n and x : 1 - 4. Independent claims are included for: (1) a preparation (M1) of the flame-retardant polymer molding composition involving dispersing the phosphorus-containing flame retardant system into the polymer molding composition or polymers in a compounding assembly. Alternatively the flame retardant system is dispersed with the polymer molding composition in polymers in the compounding assembly; (2) a polymer article comprising the nanoparticulate phosphorus-containing flame retardant system; and (3) production of the polymer article involving step of injection molding polymer article.
