In order to provide an optical signal monitoring device capable of grasping an input level change that has an influence on gain with high accuracy and determining the necessity or unnecessity of insertion of dummy light even when a wavelength-multiplexed optical signal is composed of optical signals in which a plurality of frequency grids are mixed, this optical signal monitoring device is provided with: a storage means for holding threshold values i (i=1-N) respectively set for N determination areas i each having a bandwidth n set according to an average grid of dummy light; a measurement means for sequentially measuring the optical intensity of an inputted wavelength-multiplexed optical signal in each measurement area 1-M obtained by dividing the determination area i into M (where M=n/m) parts by a bandwidth m sufficiently smaller than the grid width of an optical signal to be monitored constituting the wavelength-multiplexed optical signal, and outputting M×N measured values; and a determination means for, with respect to each of the determination areas i, determining the necessity or unnecessity of insertion of the dummy light. |
