A retracting locking mechanism

A retracting locking mechanism for an openable unit includes a striker 1 attached to one of the openable unit and a fixed unit, and a catcher 2 attached to the other of the openable unit and the fixed unit. The catcher includes an inner part 20 housed within an outer part 22. A coil spring 24 is disposed between the inner and outer parts for biasing the inner part into the outer part. A dampening device 25 dampens the movement of the inner part into the outer part caused by the coil spring. The striker 1 comprises a first hook-shaped section 10 which engages a second hook-shaped section 200 pivotally connected to a slider 210 in the catcher 2. The outer part 22 comprises a guide groove 230 and a lock groove 229.
