Adhesive/adherend systems {10) of this invention comprise a siloxane-modified adhesive component (14) and a siloxane-modified adherend component (12, 16). The siloxane-modified adhesive component (14) is prepared by combining an epoxy resin with an organosilane ingredient, a polysiloxane resin, an amine hardener, an organometallic catalyst, a base catalyst, and any thickener and extender pigment. The siloxane-modified adherend component (12, 16) is prepared using a polysiloxane resin and may also contain other resins suc as epoxy, phenolic, polyester, vinyl ester , polyurethane, polyamide, melamine, furan, acrylate, thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polycarbonate, ABS, polystyrene, ethylene vinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetate, polyamide, and polypropylene resins. When placed into contact with one another, the siloxan e groups in the siloxane-modified adhesive (14) and siloxane-modified adherend components (12, 16) form Si-O-Si bonds between themselves to form an attachment force that both occurs at ambient temperature within a reasonable amount of time, and that is greater than otherwise possible using adhesive/adherend systems having unmodified adhesive and/or adherend components.
