The method involves distributing encoded symbols of a digital encoded symbol block into p symbol sequences (S, S`, S``). The sequences are transmitted on respective p physical information channels by utilizing transmission antennae (10, 20), where p is an integer greater than 1. Each sequence is transmitted by utilizing n antennae, where n is an integer greater than 1 and each antenna transmits specific sequences among the p sequences. An independent claim is also included for a base station of a cellular radiocommunications system comprising a radio transmitter.
