The system has an adjusting system comprising an adjustment circuit (16) applying an output voltage to an electric motor (11). The adjusting system has central and front plates (BP1, BP2) that act on the circuit (16) for adjusting the output voltage in two non zero levels of same sign. The levels correspond to the actuation of the respective plates. The motor rotates at low and high speeds, during the activation of the plates respectively. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting a seat base and a backrest of a motor vehicle.
