PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk drive capable of improving a format efficiency. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk drive 10 is provided with a read control section 16b and a write control section 16c. In the magnetic disk drive, 1 data frame is formatted as 1 sector. The read control section 16b performs control to read sector data by emulating an existing format (e.g. "512 bytes/section") when a read command or a write command based on a format (e.g. "512 bytes/sector") different from the format of the magnetic disk drive 10 (i.e. 1 sector/1 data frame) is received from a host 1.
