PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointing device allowing various kinds of operational input. SOLUTION: A portable device terminal comprises a pointing device 1 capable of operating a cursor on a display screen to move the cursor to an optional direction, and a MPU 21 controlling the pointing device 1 switching a mode for outputting position information of the cursor in a pointing area and a mode for dividing the pointing area into a plurality of areas and outputting area information of divided areas where the cursor is positioned in response to displayed contents of the display screen.
