PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fixing characteristic by stabilizing a contact nip area where a nip is formed by winding a heat resistant belt round a thermal fixing roll with simple constitution and forming the uniform stable fixing nip. SOLUTION: The fixing device is equipped with the thermal fixing roll 1, a pressure roll 2 pressed against the thermal fixing roll 1, the heat resistant belt 3 wound round the outer periphery of the pressure roll 2 and moving while it is held between the thermal fixing roll 1 and the pressure roll 2, and a belt stretching and laying member 4 for stretching and laying the heat resistant belt 3, and fixes an unfixed toner image formed on sheet material S. A stretching and laying member deformation regulating member 5 is disposed between the pressure roll 2 and the belt stretching and laying member 4, and deformation regulating sliding parts 4b and 5c regulating deformation by sliding in contact with the stretching and laying member deformation regulating member and the pressure roll are disposed at the center parts in the shaft directions of the belt stretching and laying member and the stretching and laying member deformation regulating member.
