PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for generating a control signal for adjusting a gain level of a collar signal which can perform control of white balance with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The appparatus and method of this invention are to form a control signal for adjusting a gain of a collar signal on the basis of a color data after a color data and a collar gain before the gain level of the collar signal is adjusted are adjusted. This apparatus and method form a first control signal (Rg1Bg1) for adjusting the gain level of two or more collar signals on the basis of two or more collar signals before the gain level of two or more collar signals is adjusted, computes a correction value for rectifying the first control signal on the basis of two or more collar signals after the gain level of two or more collar signals is adjusted, and forms a 2nd control signal which is the rectified first control signal with the correction value.
