PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soda lime glass substrate for a surface light source device, a method of manufacturing the same, the surface light source device and a back light assembly. SOLUTION: The surface light source device 200 including a soda lime glass substrate in which potassium ions are ion-exchanged for sodium ions on the surface of the glass includes a 1st substrate 210, a 2nd substrate 220 arranged to face the 1st substrate 210 and defining the inside space and an electrode part 250 for discharge for applying voltage to the inside space. Any one of the first and second substrates 210 and 220 includes a soda lime glass. The whole portion or a portion of the surface of the soda lime glass substrate includes an ion-exchanging layer containing potassium ions that are ion-exchanged for sodium ions. Since the surface light source device 200 does not have the sodium ions, a discoloring of the surface light source device due to an elution of the sodium ions can be prevented.
