PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an all aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin that is highly heat resistant and has good physical properties such as moldability, fluidity, mechanical property and flame retardancy. SOLUTION: The liquid crystalline polyester resin is prepared by conducting the heat treatment of a prepolymer obtained from the polycondensation of the monomer to impart the repetition units represented by formulas [I], [II], [III] and [IV] at 250-350°C in substantially a solid state. The deflection temperature under load is 280-340°C and the melting viscosity measured at the shear rate of 10<SP>3</SP>s<SP>-1</SP>at a temperature by 30°C higher than the crystal melting temperature determined by differential scanning calorimeter is 10-60 Pa×s.
