PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of power collection without deteriorating image display quality. SOLUTION: This is a driving method for a panel which is constituted by forming discharge cells at intersections of scanning electrodes, and sustaining electrodes and data electrodes and which displays an image by applying sustain pulses to the scanning electrodes and sustaining electrodes by turns, and provided is a driving circuit having a power collecting means for applying the sustain pulses to the scanning electrodes and sustaining electrodes of the panel by turns; and the sustain pulses comprise a 1st sustain pulse and a 2nd sustain pulse having longer pulse duration than the 1st sustain pulse and after the 1st sustain pulse is applied successively a plurality of times to the scanning electrodes or sustaining electrodes, the 2nd sustain pulse is inserted and applied.
