<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp lighting device enabling uniform light lighting by shortening the rise time of a lamp and impressing uniform power on the lamp. <P>SOLUTION: This lamp lighting device 1 has a power supply circuit 30 to supply power, an ac drive circuit 50 to convert a dc voltage supplied from the power supply circuit 30 to an ac drive voltage and impress the ac drive voltage on the discharge lamp.
