PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition method and a system that can more correctly capture the feature of a handwritten character image of each writer. SOLUTION: Correction history data in which an identifier (device ID) of a handwriting input device used by the writer, image data of a handwritten character and character recognition code are associated with is managed in chronological order. Then, from correction history data, the handwritten character image of same character code of the same writer is extracted in chronological order beginning from new one, and processing for detecting the feature of the character image is performed, so that the feature of handwriting of an individual is extracted.
