PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition having high foaming force, providing good foam quality, imparting very low irritation to the skin and the scalp, and having excellent usability and stability. SOLUTION: This detergent composition contains (a) a hydroxyalkyl ether carboxylic acid salt-type surfactant represented by formula (I) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a 4-34C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group; one of X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>is CH<SB>2</SB>COOM<SB>1</SB>and the other is hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium, taurine, methyltaurine, a lower alkanolamine cation, a lower alkylamine cation or a basic amino acid), (b) a fatty acid ester of a polyglycerol having≥70 mass% content of a mono-fatty acid ester of the polyglycerol, and (c) a humectant.
