<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining metal for removing impurity elements included in various kinds of metal or semiconductor materials, more specifically metal silicon in an extremely efficient and inexpensive process. <P>SOLUTION: The method for refining metal includes repeating the following steps in appropriate number of times: a first step of holding a first fused metal containing impurities in a first crucible; a second step of immersing a first cooling body in the first fused metal held in the first crucible while allowing a cooling fluid to flow in the cooling body so as to crystallize a first refined metal on the surface of the cooling body; a third step of taking out the first cooling body with the crystallized first refined metal from the first fused metal; a fourth step of holding a second fused metal in a crucible, the second metal having a lower concentration of impurities than that of the first metal in the first step; and a step of melting the first refined metal crystallized in the second step, holding the molten metal with the second fused metal in the fourth step in a second crucible and crystallizing a second refined metal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
