PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize mapping almost approximate to isochromatic phase conditional color difference minimum mapping with less operation time while maintaining satisfactory gradation. SOLUTION: In mapping a color outside a gamut range to a gamut surface, a mapping direction to the gamut is calculated from a white point and a Most Saturated point, the color outside the gamut range is mapped to the gamut surface on the basis of the mapping direction.
