PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nanometer-class organic and inorganic sol-gel material having a stabilized size, without using a chelating agent, to produce a thick membrane by utilizing the sol-gel material, and to provide a method for producing the thick membrane. SOLUTION: This sol-gel material is produced by, at first, dissolving a metal alkoxide and an organically modified Si alkoxide having a prescribed functional group in a first solvent and a second solvent, respectively, so as to form a first solution and a second solution, then mixing the first solution and the second solution and stirring the mixture, so as to form a mixed solution, and further heating the mixed solution and reacting the metal alkoxide and the organically modified Si alkoxide, so as to obtain the functionalized sol-gel material. Further, a solid content of the sol-gel material is increased, by transferring the functionalized sol-gel material to the other solvent, so that the thick membrane is produced by using the sol-gel material after transferred.
