<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for driving a plasma display panel etc., that have many representable gradations and can greatly suppress generation of a false outline. <P>SOLUTION: The driving method includes (a) a step of making a display cell illuminate even in other sub-field periods in addition to a sub-field period in which the display cell illuminates with luminance of (α+K×(n-1))th gradation level illuminate when the display cell illuminates luminance of (α+K×n)th gradation level (where (n) is an arbitrary integer not less than 0, K is a prescribed integer not less than 2, and α is a prescribed integer of 0 to K) and (b) a step of setting the display cell in the state reverse to the ON or OFF state of the (α+K×(n-1))th or (α+K×n)th gradation level only in a prescribed sub-field period of a display period of each subfield when the display cell is made to illuminate with luminance of intermediate gradation level between the (α+K×(n-1))th and (α+K×n)th gradation levels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
