PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable gain amplifier capable of acquiring an equivalent operation, irrespective of the level of the input signal, and to provide a signal processing method. SOLUTION: This amplifier is configured so as to comprise a plurality of attenuators 12-2 to 12-n, each having a different attenuation amount connected in parallel with each other and each receiving an input signal inputted thereto, a plurality of first differential amplifiers 10-2 to 10-n for amplifying output signals from each of the attenuators 12-2 to 12-n, a second differential amplifier 16 for receiving signals obtained by composting the output signals of the amplifiers 10-1 to 10-n and amplifying the inputted signals, and an interpolator 22 for controlling the gains of the amplifiers 10-1 to 10-n.
