PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve sensitivity at the time of low illuminance and to improve a dynamic range. SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup device includes a substrate 50, a photoelectric conversion element which is arranged in the substrate and generates photogenerated charges corresponding to incident light, a circular gate 14 constituting a modulation transistor which is arranged adjacently to the photoelectric conversion element, a source region 15 formed on a substrate surface of a center opening in the circular gate, a second carrier pocket 19 which is a high concentration region formed in the substrate below the gate, holds the photogenerated charges generated in the photoelectric conversion element and changes a threshold of the modulation transistor, a first carrier pocket 17 which is a high concentration region formed in the substrate below the gate, in which at least a part is formed adjacently to the photoelectric conversion element compared to any parts of the second carrier pocket, which holds the photogenerated charges from the photoelectric conversion element and changes the threshold of the modulation transistor and a potential barrier 2 formed between the first carrier pocket and the second carrier pocket.
