PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor for encoder of high reliability, and high precision of positional detection. SOLUTION: The magnetic sensor for encoder for detecting the magnetic field, the sliding surface of which is in contact with the surface of the magnetic medium magnetized in a predetermined magnetization pitch is provided with a plurality of MR elements stacked with insulation films interposed so that the direction of stacking turn in accordance with the direction of the magnetization pitch, each of the MR element is provided with a plurality of straight linear parts.
