A method and apparatus for detecting back-scattered light from small particles, such as food cells, irradiated by a focused beam of light as such particles travel through the interrogation zone of a standard optical flow cell in a flow cytometer. Back-scattered light is collected at a location upstream of the beam-shaping optics (or a portion of such optics), at a location between the light beam source and the beam-shaping optics.
|
