<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which high grade both-side images having a small difference in image quality of both sides of a paper sheet are obtained even if the paper sheet varying in the glossiness between the front and the back is used. <P>SOLUTION: The glossiness Ga and Gb of the respective sides of the paper sheet are detected by detecting means (not shown) for detecting the glossiness of the respective sides of the paper sheet (S 1). Next, whether printing is both side printing is judged (S 2). In the case of not both side printing, the operation is progressed to S 7 and ordinary image formation is performed. In the case of the both side printing, whether the glossiness Ga and Gb of the respective sides of the paper sheet are equal or not is judged (S 3). In the case of the equal glossiness of the respective sides (Ga=Gb), the operation is progressed to S 7 and ordinary image formation is performed. In case the glossiness of the respective sides are different, whether the glossiness Ga of the side (a) is lower than the glossiness Gb of the side (b) is judged in S 4. If the glossiness of the side (b) is higher, the image creation conditions of the side (a) side are so set that the toner deposition is made smaller (S 5).
