<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and surely update a file on a remote server according to an improved remote protocol. <P>SOLUTION: A client gives an instruction to a server by collection/copy expansion to the remote protocol for collecting a part of data from an existing source file on the server and copying a part of the data to a proper offset inside a new target file on the server. By collection/copy expansion, the client can leave a blank position, in which the user can write new data during file updating, in the target file. By collection/copy expansion, the client can effectively delete a part of the source file by not copying it to the target file from the source file.
