PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method or the like capable of obtaining an area gradation image from which a mesh structure and a color tone similar to those of a printed matter by using an area gradation image used for generating the printed matter whereby a change due to a difference from a mesh % can be reflected and uneven image such as a moire not in existence in the printed matter is not caused. SOLUTION: The image forming method for forming an area gradation image B on the basis of an area gradation image A being an aggregate comprising pixels each including binary data, obtains an area rate shared by each mesh point in a region with a predetermined size located nearly in the center of each boundary pixel by each boundary pixel located at each mesh border of the image A, and the image B is formed by revising the binary data according to the modulus of area as to at least part of the boundary pixels among regions located nearly in the center of each boundary pixel.
