PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device of high performance by controlling luminance of LED back lights in the pixel units. SOLUTION: In the image display device equipped with: a liquid crystal panel 5 having a back light 8; and a display control part controlling display of the liquid crystal panel 5, the back light 8 comprises LEDs and one or more pixels correspond to each LED. The display control part has: an image processing means 1 of performing image processing, such as YC separation, color demodulation, IP conversion, and scaling, of an input video signal; a liquid crystal controller 2 which performs signal processing and timing generation for displaying an output video signal from the image processing means 1 on the liquid crystal panel 5; a gate driver 3 and a source driver 4 which drive drive elements (FET) of the liquid crystal panel 5; a screen information analyzing means 6 for mean luminance information, black level area detection, and white level area detection of the input video signal; and an LED back light control means 7 of outputting a current control signal controlling the luminance of individual LED back lights with a control signal outputted from the screen information analyzing means 6.
