PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for an automobile capable of preventing foreign matter from being deposited on a flow control valve for controlling a flow rate of a warm heat medium by a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: The air conditioner for the automobile is provided with the flow control valve 4 for controlling the flow rate of the warm heat medium; a heater core 5 interposed in a heat system flow passage 3 and circulated with the warm heat medium; a pump 7 for retaining the flow rate of the warm heat medium fed to the heater core 5 to a constant degree; a blower 6 for blowing air to the heater core 5; and a control means 8 for retaining the blower 6 in any one of the stopping state and the low speed state for 10 seconds when the temperature of the warm heat medium is at an ordinary temperature at activation of an engine 2 and performing the whole opening control of the flow control valve 4. Thereby, since the flow control valve 4 is fully opened at activation of the engine 2, the opened state can be avoided at a fine clearance where the foreign matter is easily plugged.
