PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid wire for gas shielded arc welding, which gives sufficient mechanical properties to a weld zone, and further which reduces the amount of generation of slag and enhances peeling property of the slag, even when gas shielded arc welding is carried out under heavy heat input/high interpass temperature condition. SOLUTION: The composition of the solid wire is as follows: the solid wire contains 0.02-0.10 mass% C, 0.65-1.00 mass% Si, 1.40-1.80 mass% Mn, 0.005-0.025 mass% S, 0.05-0.18 mass% Ti, 0.10-0.35 mass% Mo,≤0.45 mass% Cu, and the balance Fe with unavoidable impurities; the total content of Mn and Mo is≤2.10 mass%, the total content of Si and Ti is≥0.75 mass%, and the total content of S and O is≤0.030 mass%; regarding the unavoidable impurities, P is regulated to be≤0.020 mass% and O is regulated to be≤0.0100 mass%.
