PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect failures such as the disconnection of a transmission line and to prevent the function of the transmission line from being lost even in the case that such a failure occurs. SOLUTION: An electronic endoscope comprises an image pickup element for picking up images inside a celom, a mounting board where a prescribed circuit for processing signals inputted or outputted in the image pickup element is mounted, the transmission lines of the plurality of signals inputted or outputted to/from the prescribed circuit provided for at least two systems relating to the respective signals, and an abnormality detection means for detecting the occurrence of abnormality in one of the systems in the transmission lines of the respective signals.
