<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generation device which generates a viewpoint conversion image of high recognition level in generating a viewpoint conversion image with picked-up images of a plurality of image pickup means. <P>SOLUTION: This is a method for generating a viewpoint conversion image on the basis of image information obtained by one or more image pickup means mounted on a vehicle, and a space model. In addition, the space model can be renewed on the basis of either image information by a short base line length image pickup means or image information by a long base line length image pickup means in accordance with the type of a space model determined on the basis of its long/short distance information, that is, a short distance space model or a long distance space model.
