<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which dispenses with housing a power source cord into a vacuum cleaner body e.g manually etc. by making a control means control an electrically driven part to be operated to house the cord into the vacuum cleaner body when the plug of the cord is not connected to an outlet connected to commercial AC power source and which has therefore improved user-friendliness. <P>SOLUTION: A motor 45 is provided for taking out and putting the power cord 12 provided with the plug part 20 detachably connected to the outlet connected to the commercial AC power source, from and into the vacuum cleaner body 1. When the current value of the cord 12 detected by a current sensor 72 is not larger than a prescribed threshold value and the torque of a cord reel 13 detected by a torque sensor 73 is not larger than a prescribed lower threshold value, the control means 71 makes the motor 45 rotate to automatically house the cord 12 into the vacuum cleaner body 1.
