<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dissolve problems in which restriction of encoding has been necessary heretofore in consideration of continuity when performing editing recording, where two kinds of MPEG image data are reproduced by connecting the data at a designated connection position, and such restriction becomes a cause disadvantageous in terms of encoding efficiency, and in which a temporary resting phenomenon possibly occurs at the connection position. <P>SOLUTION: A VBV buffer information predicting apparatus 106 obtains the first prediction value of a VBV buffer value at the start position of a connection section or a position before a prescribed period, based on information which is included in the first encoding image data, and obtains the second prediction value of the VBV buffer value at the end position of the connection section or a position after the prescribed period, based on information which is included in the second encoding image data. A image re-encoder 108 controls the encoding amount of connection section decoding image data so as to allow a VBV buffer occupancy value to be changed from the first prediction value to the second prediction value, thereby performs re-encoding, and generates connection section re-encoding data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
