PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple-constitution collimation method of adjusting an optical axis to a projection object surface of a projector, and a projector using the collimation method. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a lighting optical system 30, a liquid crystal panel 40, and a projection lens 50 which project an image for collimation on a screen 200 as the projection object surface. Further, the projector is equipped with a photodetection sensor part 60 which acquires reflected light of the projected image for collimation as data. Furthermore, the projector is equipped with a CPU 80 which converts data on the deviation degree of the angle between the screen 200 and the optical axis of the projector 1 based upon the data acquired by the photodetection sensor part 60 and a display device 100 which informs a user of the degree of angle deviation based upon the data on the deviation degree of the angle converted by the CPU 80.
