PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily and quickly extracting a nucleic acid from a specimen containing the nucleic acid by using a nucleic acid adsorbing carrier. SOLUTION: The method for the separation and purification of a nucleic acid contains (A) a step to hold a nucleic acid-adsorbing carrier composed of a fiber in a device having at least one opening, bring a specimen solution containing a nucleic acid into contact with the carrier and adsorbing the nucleic acid to the carrier, (B) a step to wash the nucleic acid-adsorbing carrier holding the adsorbed nucleic acid with a washing liquid and (C) a step to desorb the nucleic acid from the nucleic acid-adsorbing carrier with a recovering liquid to obtain the purified nucleic acid.
