The igniter (1) for a pilot burner has a base (2,4) fitted on the end section of the burner lance, an electrode tip (3) fitted on the other end section of the burner lance, and an electrically conducting section (11) connecting the electrode base and tip. The electrically conducting section is flexible and has an ignition cable which is guided in a conduit (12) which is flexible at right angles to the ignition cable's longitudinal direction. The flexible conduit in the installed state exerts a compression spring action on the electrode tip and/or is constructed as a tensioning means for the electrode tip. An independent claim is included for a pilot burner equipped with the aforesaid igniter which has a flexible electrically conducting section.
