PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of maintaining such a state that a lubricant is applied on an image carrier and, thereby, the friction coefficient is reduced, moreover, suppressing the wear on a tip edge of a cleaning blade, stably performing the cleaning for a long term and obtaining a satisfactory visible image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with the rotated image carrier, a developing device for supplying toner to the image carrier and forming a toner image, a transfer device for transferring the toner image to a recording material, a cleaning blade disposed such that the tip edge thereof is brought into contact with the image carrier and a brush roller for applying the lubricant on the image carrier on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the image carrier from the cleaning blade. Therein, a waste toner supply means which retains a part of waste toner removed from the image carrier and supplies the same to the tip edge of the cleaning blade is provided.
