PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of improving durability. SOLUTION: This control device for the internal combustion engine is provided with an exhaust gas introducing passage 33 for introducing exhaust gas on an exhaust path 30 of the internal combustion engine 1-1 to a fuel reforming device 31; a fuel adding device 55 for adding fuel to exhaust gas introduced to the fuel reforming device 31; the fuel reforming device 31 for reforming added fuel; a reformed fuel introducing passage 34 for introducing exhaust gas including reformed fuel to an intake path 30 of the internal combustion engine 1-1; and a flow regulating valve 36 for regulating amount of exhaust gas including reformed fuel to be introduced to the intake path 20 of the internal combustion engine 1-1. The control device for the internal combustion engine determines a fuel cut condition of the internal combustion engine 1-1, and closes the flow regulating valve 36 when determining that the internal combustion engine 1-1 is in the fuel cut condition.
