<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffler with a catalyst for an internal combustion engine capable of making the best use of the cleaning capacity of the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The muffler is provide with the gas-permeable catalyst (30) for exhaust gas cleaning and an expansion chamber (25). The exhaust gas injected from an exhaust port (10) is introduced into the expansion chamber (25) via the catalyst (30). The catalyst (30) is shaped into a circular rod, for example, and the outer shape in cross-section of the catalyst (30) is same as the inner shape in cross-section of the outer end (10a) of the exhaust port (10).
