<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network monitoring method and an apparatus to prevent both an attack caused by traffic having a number of bits and an attack caused by traffic having a number of packets. <P>SOLUTION: In addition to a bit rate which is a conventional monitor rate in a polishing function, the network monitoring method and the apparatus to select differently-assorted monitor rates of a packet rate or the like for each flow are provided. In order to select the assortment of the monitor rate at each flow, a rate identifier to show the assortment of the monitor rate as a constitution element of rate monitoring information at each flow is provided and monitored at a rate of the assortment based on the rate identifier. In the case of utilizing a leaky bucket algorithm as an algorithm of a rate monitor specially, the rate identifier functions as a water volume identifier to select the assortment of the water volume stored in a bucket from the number of the bit showing an input packet length and the number of input packets. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
