PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photodetecting apparatus capable of highly accurately implementing high linearity between input and output with a wide dynamic range. SOLUTION: An I/F converting device 10 included in the photodetecting apparatus comprises a first comparing part 11<SB>1</SB>, a second comparing part 11<SB>2</SB>, a current mirror circuit 14, a SR flip-flop circuit 16, a buffer amplifier 18, a first capacitative element C<SB>1</SB>, a second capacitative element C<SB>2</SB>, a switch SW<SB>1</SB>, a switch SW<SB>2</SB>, a switch SW<SB>11</SB>, and a switch SW<SB>21</SB>. The operating characteristics of the first comparing part 11<SB>1</SB>and the second comparing part 11<SB>2</SB>are identical to each other. Capacitance values of the capacitative element C<SB>1</SB>and the capacitative element C<SB>2</SB>are identical to each other. The I/F converting device 10 has an input terminal 10a connected to a photodiode, inputs a current generated in the photodiode to the input terminal 10a, and outputs a signal of a frequency corresponding in size to the inputted current from the buffer amplifier 18.
